EDGY INTERVIEW (August 29th, 2001)

1. Who is Edgy? Band members and what instruments does each member play?

Edgy is a band based in Halifax Nova Scotia....we got Gary Leblanc on the bass, Jamie Larade on the kit, Troy Poirier on guitar, and Jonas on vocals.

2. Where did the band originate and how?

It was just something that started as a hobby even though we all knew that we loved music over all else...we stuck with it, even in Cheticamp, Cape Breton...It's probably the best decision I ever made.

3. What style would you class your music?

I'd say like a more groove-oriented emo-rock.

4. What is so appealing to you about this style?

I guess if you like your music a bit more technical (not overboard or anything) with emphasis on energy and melody, you'd probably enjoy our band.

5. Who or what are your influences? (Each member)

We all like the same shit really, but I'll give you a scenario. G's listening to Quicksand, While I'm listening to Wooden Stars, Troy's got Radiohead on his headphones, and Jonas is cranking Todd Rundgren... or maybe it was Incubus, The Police, Sunny Day Real Estate and Dj Shadow ....who knows.

6. What have you been doing in the music industry thus far? Shows (where)?, CD'(S) (name(s))?

We've put out a CD already, which is kind of a skeleton in the closet, with a new one coming out early next year...we've played planet pool, the tickle trunk, and TKO....we play the marquee, the attic and the pavillion more occasionally. The new cd, should be much more interesting

7. Describe the chemistry of the band.

We really feed off each other, sometimes the slightest thing one of us might do could results in a new song...we all do polar opposite things at the same time, while still trying to be cohesive.

8. What is the name of your new CD? Who did the cover work? Where will it be recorded? Will the sound be the same or different from the first, describe it if different?

The new CD is titled "That Secret" and should sound exponentially more mature...it has generally heavy and propulsive music that usually stays melodic while being a bit relentless...the cd is short but very dynamic...we contacted Joanne Chilton to use various pics of hers in our CD layout, Jud Hayes(of BucketTruck) helped us put it together...with a few more abstract pics of ourselves.

9. Is there a video in the future, if so, where would you like it to be shot?

We're not yet positive about that but most likely some indie thing'll come out...I'd like to be in our livingroom/jam space with some camera trickery perhaps.

10. What is your greatest fear in the band? (Each)

I can't speak for them but generally starving to death, getting evicted, and the thought of setting foot in L.A.

11. What is the thing you are most proud of so far as a band? (Each)

Learning to play shows, making indie CD's and just generally writing music that makes you feel expressive.

12. How would you describe your LIVE show? What would the audience expect to see?

Four friends sharing energy in order to keep the music we've created as cool as possible for the spectators.

13. Which band(s) would you like to play with on the same bill and why?

Far, because they no longer exist...probably Sunny Day Real Estate or Chore...cuz their fans might appreciate our aims.

14. Who would you hope to be signed by???

We hoped for TimeBomb (sunny day real estate,starling)...but Tonedef, Velvet Hammer, Artemis...not the huge labels, but one with some credibility. Timebomb is now dropped.

15. Will you be touring any time soon?

We plan to within the following months of our cd release, we hope to do dates with Chore...if not we'll freestyle. We're going to apply for a factor touring grant.

What is that?

Factor is company that rewards grants to bands...gov't funded...grants go out for CD's, Touring and Videos...probably alot more.

16. What is your ultimate goal for the band?

To keep writing music that conveys what we feel....ultimately we'd like to be a band with our own style...and we're progressively getting to that.

Anything else??

Please come to our shows...
edgy's the name...
